Post: ALERC National Coordinator
Salary: £22,000 full time to March 2014
Location: The post is likely to be based in York with travel throughout the UK
The Association of Local Environmental Records Centres (ALERC) is seeking to recruit a National Coordinator to facilitate the adoption of new biodiversity data management technology, encourage exchange of ideas and promote collaborative working between local record centres and National Biodiversity Network partners throughout the UK.
Formed in 2009, ALERC represents the interests of the local record centre community at a national level, whilst developing a support-based network of knowledge and advice to meet the needs of its members. This is an exciting opportunity to build on ALERC’s achievements and to play a key role in driving forward the Association’s work on the promotion of professional standards in biodiversity data management and use.
Reporting to the Chairman of ALERC, with support and guidance from the NBN Trust and Natural England, the postholder will help local record centres to adopt tools and technology to improve the provision of ecological data products to end users. In particular, the role will focus on securing the wider adoption of online recording by local record centres and ecological consultants, and the integration of existing online recording systems with a wider national system.
The successful candidate will be a skilled and confident communicator with a good understanding of current biodiversity management processes, able to facilitate the sharing of best practice and innovation between local record centres. Awareness of the legislative and policy requirements for a robust biodiversity evidence base is essential, in order to ensure that ecological data products meet the needs of end users and to provide guidance and training on the responsible use of biodiversity data.
The post is 37.5 hours per week with some flexible working. Office space will be provided (probably in York) with the option to work from home as appropriate. A full driving license is essential and travel expenses will be paid.
This post is funded by the NBN Trust and ALERC until March 2014. For further information visit the ALERC website: www.alerc.org.uk
